Dead Man's Draw Gameplay Specs

Hoist the Jolly Roger and take on other freebooters in this Pirate-themed risk versus reward card game. Dead Man's Draw is a 2 – 4 player game in which Pirates press their luck to see how much treasure they can accumulate. Plunder the most loot without losing it all to win the game and be the best Pirate on the seas.

The core of your turn in Dead Man's Draw is all in the flip of the cards; pulling the top card from the deck and using its special ability. Keep drawing cards and risk losing it all, or play it safe and bank your treasure. When you draw two cards of the same suit, your booty goes down to Davy's Locker! Remember – no pirate gets rich by playing it safe!

Your copy of Dead Man's Draw will come with:

  • 1 box

  • 1 rulebook

  • 60 loot cards

  • 17 trait cards

In Dead Man’s Draw, press your luck as a pirate trying to amass the most booty. But here’s the catch, get too greedy, and you could lose it all!

Dead Man’s Draw is played by 2-4 pirates in about 10-15 minutes. Draw cards one at a time trying to collect the most loot, comprised of ten suits with six cards each. Draw different suits and your treasure grows, but if you get two of the same suit you Bust and your turn is over.

Web Variants

Stardock Entertainment created a lot of different variants to play Dead Man’s Draw. Below are some of the variants from the digital versions to offer players new and exciting ways to play Dead Man’s Draw on the tabletop. We hope you enjoy these variants as much as we have!

Thieves Island

Loot Cards that are discarded when you end your turn with a Bust are placed in the Bank of the player sitting to your left instead of the discard pile.

Pile o’ Treasure

All Loot Cards in your Bank are counted for your score instead of the just the top card of each Suit Stack. Example: At the end of the game Zach has a 7 and 2 of Swords in his Bank. Instead of scoring points for the Swords, Zach scored nine points.

Sudden Death

The first player to have 50 points in their Bank wins the game.

All Hands on Deck

At the end of the game, if you do not have at least one Loot Card from each suit, subtract five points for each missing suit from your score. Example: Eliza has 34 points but she did not have any Swords or Mermaids in her Bank at the end of the game. Eliza’s final score is 24 points instead of 34 points.

Strange Lands

Loot Cards bust on numbers instead of suits. Example: Zach draws a 5 of Anchors. Then Zach draws a 3 of Anchors. He does not cause a Bust because the numbers do not match. Next Zach draws a 5 of Swords and causes a Bust because he already has a 5 of Anchors in the Play Area.

Beneath the Waves

Keep your score below 60 and still win. Example: Zach has a score of 60, Eliza has a score of 39 and Ethan has a score of 59. Ethan would win. Zach immediately lost because his score was 60 or higher. Ethan won because he had the highest score without going over 60.

Bottom Feeder

Swords and Cannons take the bottom card of an opponent’s Suit Stack instead of the top card.

Mayday Games Frequently Asked Questions

Here are a few frequently asked questions about game card sleeves.

1. What Is the Purpose of Card Sleeves?

Card sleeves protect your cards from damage and wear.

2. Do Sleeves Scratch Cards?

No, card sleeves are specifically designed to prevent scratches and other damage to your cards.

3. How Important is Double Sleeving?

Double sleeving is extremely important. The added protection will keep your cards dust-free and protect them from water.

4. How Do You Properly Sleeve Cards?

You put your card into the sleeve from bottom to top. If you are double sleeving, the inner sleeve is put into the outer from top to bottom, effectively sealing it in.

5. How Do You Flatten Sleeves on Cards?

Usually, card sleeves flatten over time and use. Some people will use binders to flatten them faster. You can also just put them under a heavy book to "press" them flatter.  We recommend One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez, it is a doozy.

Warehouse Pickup

If you are in Utah and want to pick up your order from us, go ahead and check out on your order and email support@maydaygames.com to let us know you would like to pick up your order.  We can arrange for that and refund your shipping when you pick up at our warehouse at 380 West 700 South Ste #3  Springville UT 84663.  We are generally there M-F from about 10 to 4.

Combined Shipping

If you aren't aware, Mayday Games shares a warehouse with both SwanPanasiaSleeves.com and SleeveKings.com.  If you want to order some Mayday products along with products from either of those websites we can easily combine the orders and refund you any shipping across any of these three sites.  Please just put in your orders from the same email account and be sure they are both shipping to the same address, then email to support@maydaygames.com with the email subject of "Combined Shipping".  Tell us the two order numbers and Curt will combine the two orders in our shipping software and refund you back the difference.  Note that sometimes our warehouse is TOO efficient and ships out before we can get the word to combine orders, but if that happens Curt will still refund your shipping.

We also look through orders each morning and automatically combine orders from the same customer/address from all three websites and refund extra shipping without the email to Curt, but you may want to send him an email just to be safe.

Shipping/Processing Speed

Note that on checkout you often can select "Priority" or "First Class" or "UPS" shipping.  Priority Mail is 2-3 days from the day we ship it so it is generally the fastest, but it usually takes us 1-2 business days for us to ship your order out.  Our warehouse staff is quick but during peak times (like around the holidays and after special promotions) we can take up to 5 business days to get things shipped out.

If you are really in a hurry and want your order shipped out quickly we suggest you order from our Amazon store HERE as we ship those orders out first and those go out within 1 business days, all the time.

Please don't email Curt asking why your order hasn't shipped unless it has been more than 3 business days normally, or 5 business days if it is right after a sale or the holidays.

Shipping and Returns Policy

Please check our shipping and return policy HERE.

MAP POLICY:

Yes, we have a MAP POLICY and you can read it HERE. In a nutshell, we do not allow stores/distributors to sell on Amazon.com through the US marketplace.  Selling on most other online venues including your own website is acceptable generally.
